Step inside our time machine
Let’s advance a few months, specifically, Monday 28th May 2018. It’s a typically busy morning at the family home. The kids are falling out and won’t get ready for school, you can’t find that important file you took home to read, somebody has drunk all the milk. Stress levels are rising and you need to get to work sharpish.
Your work phone chimes with an incoming email. Lo and behold another unpaid invoice. The finance department has let you down again. You click on the link to view and undertake to sort it later. You forget all about it get into the car, drop the kids off at school and head into work. You turn up at the office and there’s not much work being done. Everyone is staring at a desktop PC. There is a message on the screen which says your company data is in the possession of a hacker group. It is being held by them and you have to pay a ransom with Bitcoin. Your day cannot get any better can it!
No work is going to get done because all your computers are infected. The staff want to know if they should go home. Then someone mentions they had read something on Linkedin about having to report a data breach. You’re wondering how this has happened to your organisation.
